چکیده

A formulation of nano-encapsulated enantiomer of (+) promethazine with desired release rate has been synthesized for establish a localized drug delivery system. It was tested on a hind limb suspension (HLS) disuse rat model, and by using a non-destructive Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) relaxation technique, and micro computed tomography (Micro-CT) analysis technique to qualitatively evaluate the effectiveness of the new bone formations as well as to compare the current commercial anti-bone loss drug Alendeonate. Our studies suggest that nano-encapsulated (+) promethazine in controlled release formulations conjugating bone-targeting functional groups are effective in promoting bone growth in a disuse rat model.

The minimum size of a closed nano-space in which cells can survive was determined using 4-nl nanowells. One or two cells could divide in the nanowell. Our results suggest that the cell division activity in the nano-space is determined by the conflict between intercellular effects and consumption of substrates.

In a liquid-liquid interface bioreactor, fungal cells locate in a hydrophilic polyacrylonitrile microsphere layer on an aqueous-organic interface. In this article, effects of hydrophobicity of the interface on n-decane hydroxylation activity of Monilliera sp. NAP 00702 was examined. (-)-4-Decanol production was significantly enhanced to 132% by addition of polytetrafluoroethylene.

Some Prototheca sp. are known to be involved in n-hexadecane degradation. Two derivatives derived from n-hexadecane in such Prototheca sp. were identified as 5-hexadecanone and 5-hexadecanol. n-Hexadecane was assumed to be converted to 5-hexadecanol and then to 5-hexadecanone through a unique subterminal oxidation pathway in such Prototheca sp.

Vessel network formation in response to intermittent hypoxia is frequency dependent.

A combined experimental and mathematical model of intermittent hypoxia (IH) conditioned engineered tissue was used to characterize the effects of IH on the formation of in vitro vascular networks. Results showed that the frequency of hypoxic oscillations has pronounced influence on the vascular response of endothelial cells and fibroblasts.

Effects of insulator cHS4 on transgene expression from plasmid DNA in a positive feedback system.

The effects of a genetic insulator (chicken cHS4) on transgene expression in a positive feedback system using the GAL4-VP16 activator and luciferase reporter plasmids were examined. The introduction of cHS4 enhanced luciferase expression in mouse liver, indicating that this system would be useful for efficient transgene expression.

Fluorescent quantitation method for differentiating the nativity of green fluorescent protein.

A gel imaging method was employed to quantitate the GFP that had been subjected to denaturation and degradation treatments. This method is able to differentiate the nativity of GFP by relating the observed changes in the position of fluorescent bands which is unable to be detected using the spectrofluorometric method.
